Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter commended Robert Lewandowski’s “killer instinct” after the veteran striker inspired his side to a 2-1 comeback victory over Charlotte FC with a match-winning brace over the weekend.
The former Barcelona forward produced another clinical display, scoring twice to help Chicago secure all three points and strengthen their position in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Charlotte took an early lead through Pep Biel, but Lewandowski responded in spectacular fashion in the 20th minute. The Polish striker unleashed a powerful strike from outside the penalty area past the goalkeeper to level the score.
The 37-year-old completed the turnaround in the 68th minute, calmly slotting a right-footed finish into the bottom left corner after a well-worked attacking move.
His second goal sealed an important victory for the Fire as they continued their push up the table.
Speaking after the match, Berhalter was full of praise for his star forward.
“Inside the box, he is a killer,” Berhalter said. “He’s fully invested in what we’re building here. He’s a world-class striker, and above all, he wants to win.”
